Their story begins in Ottawa, eight years ago. Alana and Shawn met at the University of Ottawa when a
mutual friend introduced them one evening in March of 1996. They didn't meet again until that fall, when they
returned to Ottawa to begin another school year. They crossed paths in the street; Alana was wearing a red,
kilt-like skirt and Shawn told her she looked like a Christmas tree. Alana was obviously swept off her feet
and the courtship began.
The couple soon began their Brooks Residence-based romance. Visiting each other every day, spending time
really getting to know each other and falling in love... oh yes and studying too! When the year was up,
Shawn was graduating and leaving for Australia while Alana stayed in Ottawa to finish school. How blue it
was for the pair to be separated for so long. When Shawn returned to Canada, he decided to attend Algonquin College
(because he had to be reunited with his sweetie). Not long after, Alana graduated from Ottawa U and soon
joined Shawn at "The Gonk."
Alana and Shawn started to really make themselves at home in Ottawa. They even managed to convince some of
their siblings to join them (for a while anyways). Alana was working in the many Ottawa museums, Shawn did his
computer "stuff". Many years passed, and the two spent time going on trips, camping, visiting their families
together and growing closer. Alana and Shawn eventually moved into their first apartment, on Cooper Street.
It was their first little home together and they were both very happy there, although eventually the proximity to the
Kelly Funeral Home started to be a bit too much for them handle. They both graduated from Algonquin
College and after racking up far too much student debt, the two luckily both found themselves jobs. Shawn cut
his hair and he and Alana were officially real grown-ups.
Fast forward a couple of years…On their 6th year anniversary as a couple, they decided it would be a nice way
to celebrate with a quiet weekend at the cottage, just the 3 of them (Alana, Shawn and Boucca). Saturday
night after dinner, Alana walked out of the cottage to see dozens of candles lining the dock, thinking it was
a very romantic anniversary gesture. At the end of the dock, over the water, under the stars, Alana and Shawn
sat talking and freezing. It was then, when Shawn put his arms around Alana and opened his hands to reveal the
big sparkly ring. (Awww)
Alana and Shawn are ready at the gate now, waiting to officially begin their life together as husband and wife.
They have recently bought a house, and are becoming quite the DIY team. They have been planning their
wedding for 2 years and are thrilled that the day is fast approaching. Alana and Shawn are so happy to finally
celebrate "their story" by getting married on September 25, 2004!
Please sign our guest book we would love to hear from you :)
